What is the Best Practice for RE-500 Reference Electrode Storage?
Purpose
This article gives some potential routes to take when storing the RE-500 reference electrode.
Solution
Submerge the reference electrode (RE-500) tip in 1M LiCl diluted in 0.1M CH3COOH/water and seal to prevent evaporation. Then it can be stored for one year. Never let it dry. NaCl can be used as a substitute for LiCl for shorter term storage.
Alternatively, while not ideal, the RE-500 can be left in the ECD submerged in mobile phase for short-term storage.
